New England Patriots VS. Atlanta Falcons

Image   The 3-0 New England Patriots will be heading to Atlanta to play the 1-2 Atlanta Falcons for Sunday night football. Last time these teams played each other; Tom Brady lead the Patriots to 28-10 win over Matt Ryan’s falcons.

Atlanta is a tough team to beat when at home, their record at the Georgia Dome since 2008 is 34-7. Atlanta posses one of the leagues top 10 offense which is led by quarterback Matt Ryan, but their offense will be slowed down because of an injured Steven Jackson. Jackson the falcons star running back will be replaced by Jacquizz Rodgers. For the Falcons defense the same cannot be said, Atlanta has lost 5 consecutive games since last season in which they led in points heading into halftime. As seen last week with a disappointing loss to the Miami dolphins, where Atlanta led in points until the defense allowed a late 4th quarter touchdown which led the dolphins to a comeback victory.

Patriots starting 3-0 should be a heavy favorite, but if you take a closer look you will see those wins have come against lesser teams. Matt Ryan will be the first elite quarterback this new patriot’s team will face this season, but the patriots have won the last 3 times the teams played each other. With Brady’s new rookie wide receiver receiving heavy criticism for not being able to keep up with the high paced new england offense and the loss of star wide receiver Wes Welker in the off season has slowed down the once feared New England offense. Also having one of the top tight ends in the NFL Rob Gronkowski injured does not help bradys offense. Defensively the team has been forcing opponents to make numerous mistakes this season, causing at least one turn over in the last 30 games straight.  Another thing about the patriots defense, they have not allowed a single point in the 4th quarter so far this season.

Atlanta is one of the hardest team to beat when their at home, with last weeks loss the falcons will be looking to redeem themselves in front of their fans. New englands rookie wide receivers are showing improvement as evidence from last weeks match up vs Tampa bay, we saw the rookie receivers beginning to time themselves with brady and making less mistakes running the routes. Also with a possibility of the return of Rob Gronkowski which would give a huge boost to the new england offense, and could mean the difference between loosing and winning. For now i will be picking the Atlanta Falcons beating the New England Patriots. Even with there running back injured Atlanta will be forced to throw the ball more, which is a good thing when you have a quarterback like Matt Ryan. This Sunday night match up should be a high scoring game as both teams are ran by quarterbacks who can destroy a team with their aerial assault.  Who do you think will win and why?

  1. From what I’ve read, I think the falcons will win. They seem like a very consistent team and the patriots have lost Rob Gronkowski for the season which is huge loss to the team. Good post. Cheers

  2. Well, I couldn’t really say (I can’t claim to know much about football). I’m really impressed, though, with the amount you know about the teams and histories. Do you follow the CFL as well or is it just NFL? I’ll look forward to reading more! James
